Mark your calendars for the fifth annual Social Media Day or #SMDAY on June 30. The global movement initiated by popular website Mashable in 2010 is “a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.” Enthusiasts all over the world organize meetups and discuss the impact of social media and technology offline.
In the Philippines, the Social Media Day gathering will be on June 28, 3:00 p.m. at SM Aura, Taguig. With the theme #boomPH (Best of Online Media in the Philippines), the event will be a celebration of the boom in the internet, social media and digital industries in the Philippines, the opportunities that come with them, their positive impact on the lives of Filipinos, the promotion of prosperity for users and connectivity for all.
As this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the country’s first connection to the internet, Social Media Day 2014 will simultaneously pay tribute to the pioneers, remember milestones, and give recognition to the digital natives who represent the future.
