13 times Pope Francis kissed babies: Hard to say who’s cuter

“We need to see each child as a gift to be welcomed, cherished, and protected,” the Pope said during his public mass at Luneta last Sunday. “And we need to care for our young, not allowing them to be condemned to a life on the streets.”

Earlier that day at the youth encounter held in UST, 12-year-old Glyzelle Palomar asked the Pope this question: “Why does God allow so many children to suffer?”

A former street child, Glyzelle wanted to know why innocent children are abused. Then she broke down and cried. Another child, Jun Chura, recounted his experiences as a homeless child who lived in the streets.

The Pope responded by pulling both children into a hug. He abandoned his prepared speech and proceeded to address the young crowd spontaneously. “She is the only one who has put a question for which there is no answer and she wasn’t even able to express it in words but in tears,” the Pope said.

Indeed, Pope Francis’ words are a wake-up call: The world can be cruel, so we should treat our children well, to the best of our abilities. We must, according to the Pope, “[help them build] a society worthy of their great spiritual and cultural heritage.”

That said, what follows is a collection of images showing Pope Francis being true to his words: Here he is kissing and blessing Filipino children, aka the hope of our country. The adorable pope and equally adorable kids? Aww, these pictures are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
