10 outdoor dates that you can do on Valentine’s Day
Come Valentine’s Day, expect impossible traffic jams and extremely crowded restaurants. For your sanity, plan in advance. February is almost here, and before you know it, Valentine’s will be as well. If you’ve run dry of unique things to do for this year, why not shake things up a bit?
Forego the VDay norm of wining and dining your significant other and don’t heed your bitter friends’ advice to “Get a room.” Instead, go outside, get some fresh air, and enjoy each other’s company. Beyond just taking a new scenery, there are health benefits to doing physical activities together. “When a couple works out together, the actual exercise itself can physically and emotionally have a positive impact,” said leading relationship psychotherapist Dr. Jane Greer. Here are some ideas to get you out of the door on Valentine’s Day:
1| Watch hot air balloons fly.
Love will literally be in the air at the 19th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, which will be held at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga from February 12-15. A Valentine concert featuring Aiza Seguerra will happen on the 14th.
2| Enjoy romantic movies under the stars.
Hold a picnic and watch a movie under the stars at NuCinema’s “Romantic Reels” event on February 14.
3| Stroll around a park.
Keep it simple by taking a walk along the tree-lined paths of La Mesa Ecopark. You can also rent bikes, swim, hold a picnic, and go fishing.
4| Reach the summit.
True outdoor lovers will love the “Valentine’s Climb” day trip arranged by Pinoy Getaways.
5| Race to the finish line.
Up for an adrenaline-filled date? Go karting at Boomland Kart Circuit in Pasay City.
6| Run to the finish line.
A fun run dedicated to the Apo Hiking Society is happening on the morning February 15 (really early in the morning, so it kinda counts as Valentine’s night). Why not burn those VDay dinner calories immediately? The registration fee starts at PHP 450.
7| Look at the sky light up.
Watch fireworks on February 14 at the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition in SM Mall of Asia.
8| Cruise along Manila Bay.
Take your date on a lovely cruise of Manila Bay. Watch the sunset and share a delicious meal aboard the ferry.
9| Admire pretty birds together.
If you’re both nature lovers, try birdwatching. Sign up for a trip arranged by the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines.
10| Explore the city.
Cultured couples will enjoy going around old Manila by joining a Heritage Conservation Society tour. If organized tours aren’t your thing, you can turn the us-against-the-world factor up a notch by exploring the city on your own.
